Stolen grilling supplies

Tonight after I got off of work I drove down to Columbia City, and got some hamburger buns at the PCC and hamburger from a local meat shop. Then I decided to head to the beach to start a fire and hang out with Molly🐶. I stopped by my place to grab charcoal, Molly's dinner, and a cast iron pan. I drove over to Golden Gardens, but when I got there the parking lot was full so I turned around and went to Gasworks Park.

I grabbed the paper bag I'd put the charcoal in and loaded it up with grilling stuff. I found the barbecue stands and unloaded my bag onto a picnic table. Then I set the bag of charcoal in the grill stand and doused it with some lighter fluid. I started the fire up, and waited.

Molly and I wandered the area, enjoying the view of the lake, the quality of the light, some local graffiti. Then, just as the coals were getting good for cooking on, I realized I had left two important tools at home: a spatula and a pot holder or towel to use when handling hot cast iron.

Disappointed, I decided to walk back to the car to grab an IKEA bag to pack all my stuff into. When I got back, the picnic table was empty. What went missing: a half-used bottle of lighter fluid, eight hamburger buns, five dollars worth of meat, and an almost new eight-inch cast iron I got recently for cooking on the road. I have a working theory, there was a big group nearby that were wrapping up their event when I circled back to the car. Maybe someone assumed that my stuff was theirs.

I got a bit mad, but then I reframed, either someone accidentally took them, in which case, I can't blame them too much for thinking it was some leftover supplies. Or they were stolen, in which case the things are worth more to the thief than they are to me.

So I went to Ivar's and treated myself to salmon 'n chips.

comments
